Reaktor 5 Instruments
Random Sampler
When working in Reaktor I quite like creating instruments that have a kind of controllable randomness element to them. The ‘Random Sampler’ is a reasonably good example of this. It is essentially a Resynth sampler whose parameters are being controlled by a bank of random number generators. These random number generators, in turn, have their parameters adjusted from the from panel.
This instrument does a good job of ‘smoothing out’ most samples into a pad when passed through delays, reverbs etc, but can also be used for more glitchy, Hecker type sounds.
Apologies, this instrument does suck up quite a lot of CPU power. Keeping the ‘Grain Size’ down tends to help.
Live Sampler
This sampler works in a similar way to the Random Sampler but has control over pitch which gives quite pleasing effects when a single pitch drone sample is used.
Live Delay
This instrument works in a similar way to the ‘Live Sampler’ but instead uses a cloud delay. I usually put a synth on the input of this unit and play live line in to it. The freeze button is a handy feature for pausing the waveform, thus giving you a nice drone to manipulate. Try inputting a sound, freezing, changing your input sound and adding to the original by unfreezing.
Live Beats
I don’t often use beats but I thought the controllable randomness principle could work on beat samples too.
The ‘Grain Size’ control is the key here. Keep it set low for those lovely glitchy beats. Also try turning the pitch on as this can give some pretty interesting results.
Remember to start the internal clock.
